Can I buy a cell phone on ebay to work with my existing Sprint plan?

kimpenn09 asked:

My cell phone is broken and I really don’t want to pay hundreds of dollars to replace it. If I “bring my own phone” to a Sprint store, say, one I bought on ebay, will they activate it for me (I know I’ll probably have to pay an activation fee, right?)
For the record, I have Sprint’s insurance plan but really don’t want a refurbished version of this piece of garbage phone.

Being a CDMA network this is not as straight forward as if it was GSM.

You will have to look for a Sprint CDMA phone on eBay. Buying any GSM will not work as will a CDMA phone on another network.

In theory it will work, but you might get that one CS person that’s an ass. If that happens, just call back and get another one to try and activate it. I can’t guarantee it will or it won’t.

HOWEVER, IT MUST BE A SPRINT BRANDED PHONE. It has to say sprint on it and it has to be in their database.

So, if you buy an unlocked CDMA phone that was used on another carrier and it DOES NOT have “Sprint” on it, They will not activate it. That I can guarantee.

The plan has to say either sprint or unlocked that means it will work with sprint or unlocked that means it will work with.
